Atoka City Council
The City Council of Atoka serves as the city’s legislative and policy-making body, responsible for enacting local laws, managing finances, and overseeing city operations. Comprising the Mayor and four council members, the council plays a key role in ensuring the efficient functioning of the city government.
- Council Composition: Five members – the Mayor (at large) and one council member from each of the four wards.
- Mayor: Elected citywide for a two-year term, presides over council meetings, and has a vote but no veto power.
- Vice Mayor: Elected by the council to act in the Mayor’s absence, serving a one-year term.
- Elections: Mayor elected in odd-numbered years; council members elected in even-numbered years.
- Powers and Responsibilities: Enacts legislation, appoints officials, manages city finances, and oversees public services and investigations.
Meetings
City Council meetings are scheduled for the first and third Monday of each month at 6:00pm, at the City Hall Building. Meetings can also be viewed from the city’s YouTube channel.
