Municipal Court
The Municipal Court is overseen by a Municipal Judge, who is appointed by the City Council for an indefinite term. The Municipal Judge has the authority to hear and rule on cases involving offenses against the city’s charter and ordinances. Additionally, the City Council may create a minor violations bureau to handle smaller infractions, such as traffic and parking violations, without a formal court appearance. The Municipal Judge keeps records of all court proceedings, case dispositions, and money collected from fines. They also have the power to issue warrants and subpoenas, administer oaths, enforce judgments, and address contempt of court.
